An intoductory sentence or two about Green Routes.
Green Routes started in The Walled Garden at Gartmore House near Stirling. We aim to develop people with additional support needs or from backgrounds which disadvantage them in terms of employment, to enable them to realise their full potential and, where they have the capacity, to progress towards employability and independent living. Green Routes provides training in horticulture, rural skills and independent living skills, designed to meet the needs of students and provide them with a range of opportunities.
The lease on the Gartmore House garden expired at the end of October 2022. Earlier this year we took a ten year lease on The Walled Garden at Gargunnock House near Stirling and have been gradually transferring our operations to there. In addition, a few months after taking the lease we took the opportunity to buy a field near Gartmore, as part of our strategy to have our own property.
Having two sites also allows us to develop our operations to suit the needs of our students. The aim is to have one site where we can conduct training and education, as we have been doing for 15 years, and another site with a more work focused agenda. Our employability students (those able to progress to work outwith Green Routes) will have the opportunity to improve and learn new transferable skills, such as timekeeping and use of worksheets, in meaningful roles, growing produce and making woodwork items for sale.
